Vom 26.-30. März findet in Tunis das elfte Weltsozialforum (WSF) statt, zu dem Aktivist_innen und soziale Bewegungen aus dem Maghreb herzlich einladen. Das erste WSF tagte 2001 im brasilianischen Porto Allegre als Gegenveranstaltung zu den Gipfeln der WTO. 2013 wird es nun erstmalig in der arabischen Welt veranstaltet und steht somit im Kontext von revolutionären Umbrüchen in der gesamten Region. Über 4.000 Organisationen, NGOs und Netzwerke haben sich bereits angemeldet, rund 1.500 Veranstaltungen sind angemeldet. Trotz der aktuell angespannten Lage in Tunesien nach der Ermordung von Chokri Belaid wird das WSF in geplanter Form auf dem Campus der Universität stattfinden. Aktivist_innen aus der ganzen Welt sind aufgerufen, nach Tunis zu kommen, um ihre Solidarität mit den emanziativen Bewegungen für soziale Gerechtigkeit, Demokratie und Würde zu zeigen. Auch die Bundeskoordination Internationalismus und Menschen aus dem BUKO-Umfeld werden beim WSF dabei sein und Workshops anbieten. Die Zeiten und Orte werden erst ganz kurzfristig feststehen. Of the beauty and the pitfalls of international solidarity - a perspective from the global North. This discussion event is organised by a grassroot network of internationalist groups and organizations in Germany, called the Bundeskoordination Internationalismus (BUKO) (buko.netropol.net/www), which roughly translates as federal alliance for internationalism. The network has existed for more than 35 years and one of its primary political objectives is promoting and getting involved in solidarity actions with social movements and activists in the global South, disseminating information and their positions, learning from them and fighting with them against those economic and power structures in the global North that often have a devastating impact on the lives of people elsewhere. Against this background, we would like to present at the World Social Forum some experiences in solidarity work we have made so far, and the many questions we have. For example: Social movements in different places have different forms of organising themselves internally. As a network, the BUKO is organised in a strictly non-hierachical manner. However, movements in other places are sometimes organised in either a more hierachical way or a more loosely organised in networks of friends, families, neighbourhoods. How does that impact our cooperation? Or, another example: Activists in the global North often live in economically more secure conditions if compared to those from the global South. However, this does not mean that activists or organisations in the global North are necessarily rich by the standards of their own society. What does that mean for our cooperation? How can we take account of the different material conditions activists are living in and the hierarchies associated with this, without subscribing to a simple, and often false, poor - rich dichotomy? And in what types of activities should international solidarity actually result? The event is highly interactive – we will give a short input, but then ask everyone to share their experiences with solidarity across borders and their ideas on what it should look like. The event will be held in English, but translation to French can be offered.
