Cities for All - Struggles for the right to the city in the world

" The right to the city" is a worldwide common catchphrase for people to organise, bundle their struggles and articulate their demands for social justice. The right to the city is daily negated and violently taken: no access to land and social infrastructure, evictions and displacements due to privatisation, speculation on real estate and mega projects, the privatisation of public space and city planing in the interest of a few. The hope lies in a mutual getting to know of different experiences regarding struggles, especially because the right to the city means something entirely different in European metropolises compared to mega cities in Africa and Asia. Their growth is inevitably connected to land expropriation, violent displacement and destruction of livelihoods. During the workshop we want to make the different experiences worldwide visible, discuss possible perspectives for networking, thereby keeping in mind the "Urban Socal Forum" in Naples in September. Charlotte Mathivet is a right to the city activist from Paris/Santiago de Chile and works the international network "Habitat International Coalition" and is currently involved in the organisation of the World Urban Forums.

"Recht auf Stadt" ist weltweit das gemeinsame Banner unter dem Menschen sich organisieren, ihre Kämpfe bündeln und Forderungen nach sozialer Gerechtigkeit artikulieren können. Das Recht auf Stadt wird tagtäglich verweigert und den Menschen gewaltsam geraubt: Fehlender Zugang zu Land und sozialer Infrastruktur, Räumungen und Vertreibungen aufgrund von Privatisierung, Immobilienspekulation und Megaprojekten, die Privatisierung öffentlichen Raums und Stadtplanung im Interesse weniger... Die Hoffnung liegt im gegenseitigen Kennenlernen verschiedener Erfahrungen von Kämpfen, auch wenn oder gerade weil das Recht auf Stadt in europäischen Metropolen möglicherweise etwas anderes bedeutet als in den Megacities in Afrika und Asien. Untrennbar ist deren Anwachsen mit Landraub, gewaltsamer Vertreibung und Vernichtung von Lebensräumen verbunden. In dem Workshop sollen die verschiedenen Erfahrungen weltweit sichtbar gemacht und diskutiert und mögliche Perspektiven auf Vernetzung z.B. mit Blick auf das "Urban Socal Forum" in Neapel im September eröffnet werden. Charlotte Mathivet ist Recht-auf-Stadt-Aktivistin aus Paris/Santiago de Chile und arbeitet für das internationale Netzwerk "Habitat International Coalition", sie ist derzeit an der Organisierung des World Urban Forums beteiligt.
