The Asylum Monologues
The Asylum Monologues will tell about the steps towards justice by not only showing the biographies of refugees and asylum seekers (their initially 'normal' lives in their home country, the flight reasons and their experiences with the German asylum system), but also by narrating stories of dividing lines and coalitions, of cowardice, of conflicts and solidarity. In short: the Asylum Monologues will tell those dramas which take place if different lives touch each other under extraordinary circumstances and if people finally "become unable to live an uncommited and suspended life".(Edward Said)
Die Asyl-Monologe erzählen von Menschen, die Grenzen überwunden, Verbündete gefunden und ein „Nein“ nie als Antwort akzeptiert haben. Die Asyl-Monologe erzählen von Ali aus Togo, von Freunden liebevoll „Präsident“ genannt, Felleke aus Äthiopien, der erst willensstark Abschiebeversuche verhindern muss, um dann einen Menschenrechtspreis überreicht zu bekommen, und Safiye, die nach Jahren der Haft in der Türkei und einer absurden Asylablehnung sich für das Lebensbejahenste überhaupt entscheidet: sie schenkt einem Sohn und einer Tochter das Leben.
