From a vigil in the summer of 2013 in Istanbul against the demolition of a park and the cutting down of trees a massive protest movement emerged within a few days in Turkey and the Turkish diaspora - expression of the hope of people for a different, democratic society that is based on respect and cooperation. A excited international public showed solidarity with the brave people, who spontaneously, creatively and refreshingly went to the streets for "freedom - here and now". Meanwhile the official side of Turkey attempted to discredit the protesters as Çapulcu (looters). The movement took up the slogan self confident and reframed it. With his book ›Çapulcu‹ Tayfun Guttstadt allows a deep insight into the context that lead to the protest, its course, the motives and aims of the movement and he explains what the possible consequences could be. Aus einer Mahnwache im Sommer 2013 in Istanbul gegen den Abriss eines Parks und das Fällen der Bäume dort entstand innerhalb weniger Tage eine massive Protestbewegung in der Türkei und der türkischen Diaspora – Ausdruck der Hoffnung vieler Menschen auf eine andere, demokratischere Gesellschaft, die auf Respekt und Miteinander beruht. Eine begeisterte internationale Öffentlichkeit solidarisierte sich mit den mutigen Menschen, die spontan, kreativ und erfrischend für ›Freiheit – jetzt und hier!‹ auf die Straße gingen, während die offizielle Türkei sich bemühte, die Demonstrant_innen als Çapulcu (›Plünderer‹) zu diffamieren. Selbstbewusst nahm die Bewegung daraufhin den Begriff auf und deutete ihn um. Mit seinem Buch ›Çapulcu‹ gewährt Tayfun Guttstadt einen tiefgehenden Einblick in die Umstände, die zu den Protesten führten, ihren Verlauf, die Beweggründe und Ziele der Protestbewegung und erläutert, was mögliche Folgen sein könnten.
