"By the time we claim the right to the city not only city changes; our reference points, relationships and meetings change as well. (...) So let’s claim our right to the city! It’s in the streets, hangs in trees and hides under cobblestones.” That’s how activists invited to the Right-to-the-City-days in Hamburg in the summer of 2009. What ideas and wishes about a different city shine through the current urban social movements? How can we imagine a city where the right to the city is carried out? How is an utopian overrun, that is part of every emancipative movement, becoming apparent in concrete appropriation processes of city? Together with you we’d like to discuss these and other questions. Therefore we’ll bring examples of urban social movements from all over the world as well as specific examples from Hamburg and Bochum.
